Hassan’s story

Hassan Khan

Coming to the UK has helped me learn a lot about myself.” Hassan Khan
Postgraduate Law student
Residential advisor

‘I was a really sheltered boy in Canada. My family is originally from Pakistan, but we moved to Vancouver in 2002 when I was four. I wouldn’t go out to parties much, and being in groups of people was difficult for me. But when I came to Sussex I forced myself to get out of my comfort zone.

‘I lived on campus for a year, and then became a residential adviser for the postgraduate accommodation in Lewes. A big part of my role is encouraging international students to socialise with others. I know it can feel difficult to do that, but it really helps with your studies and your level of happiness. I’ve got them all talking about where they’re from. We’ve had some amazing conversations in the kitchen about China, Taiwan and Africa!’
