This is a core module for the BA Digital Media and Culture. You will be introduced to key issues in this heterogeneous field of study. After an introductory lecture in Week 1, the module is divided into seminars and workshops that will introduce you to the three strands of the degree:

1. digital theory and culture

2. digital methods and digital humanities

3. creative digital media practice.

The module is also project oriented: you will be asked to address a specific area of investigation from the perspectives of the three strands.

Module learning outcomes

  • Differentiate approaches to problems and concepts within the field of digital media and culture.
  • Communicate findings in relation to a defined area of investigation in digital media and culture.
  • Evaluate appropriateness of different theories and methods of investigation in digital studies, and in relation to a chosen area of study.
  • Interpret and analyse data so as to structure coherent arguments about the topics and issues identified and addressed in the module.
