“I developed an interest in renewable technology during my undergraduate degree. When the time came to choose my Masters, Sussex stood out to me. I loved the campus and the culture seemed like a great fit – I met students who were organised and ambitious and I felt like the Business School could support me to develop professionally.
I had an incredible experience on the Energy and Climate Policy MSc. I was surrounded by amazing, capable people who were passionate about learning. My tutors supported me to secure work experience and suggested I apply for a placement with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
The Careers and Entrepreneurship team were pivotal in helping me to prepare my application by advising on how to write a strong cover letter and CV. After a challenging interview, I was thrilled to be offered a summer internship, where I worked on a white paper exploring just and inclusive energy policy.
GWEC was relatively smaller when I first joined and it’s been lovely to see it grow as I’ve progressed along with it. Following my placement, I supported the COP26 delegation in Glasgow and was offered a role as Policy Officer before working on COP27 in Egypt. Being asked to lead the Global Renewables Alliance COP28 campaign in the United Arab Emirates marked the best year of my life – I travelled to countries I’d never visited before and connected with fellow Sussex grads achieving incredible things within energy policy.
I’m now Head of Operations and Partnerships at GWEC, where I focus on action-oriented stakeholder engagement. From ministers to indigenous farmers, I encounter so many diverse perspectives, which I harness to help us think more purposefully about sustainability.
It’s important for me to stay connected to the Business School because I want to help students succeed like I did. I’m so grateful that Sussex showed me a career pathway that I never even knew existed – which I am keen to stay in for the long run.”
