Module code: Q1156
Level 4
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Seminar
Assessment modes: Coursework

Building on the learning the Academic Communication for Engineering 1 module, you will develop relevant critical reading and research skills. These will help you to understand academic source material and support you in creating subject-specific reports.

You will learn to locate and paraphrase relevant methods from documented engineering experiments, while discussing the implications on your own experimental designs and outcomes. You’ll also learn how to cite sources, according to Engineering referencing styles, while becoming familiar with our principles of academic integrity.

Framed around familiar degree topics, you will analyse and produce presentaionts that reflect the specific communicative styles required in your subject area. This will enable you to transfer simillar assessment skills in other engineering modules.

Module learning outcomes

  • Identify the key ideas, and purposes of relevant Engineering sources to support the communication of students’ own written texts and genres.
  • Interpret, analyse and produce oral discourse and genres typically found in academic Engineering and professional environments.
  • Develop individualised approaches to textual analysis and acquisition of subject specific language to support one’s own autonomous approach to future learning.
