The course covers the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, and aims to develop students' ability to communicate across cultures at post-intermediate level in written and spoken English. It includes work on vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and a range of reading and writing tasks. The course content will be according to Level C1 (Competent User), as defined in the Common European Framework.

Module learning outcomes

  • Learners will be able to use the language in a range of culturally appropriate ways at close to educated native speaker level.
  • Learners will further extend their vocabulary, whilst refining their usage and command of style and register.
  • Learners will be able to make full use of the press and other media, such as drama, film and literature.
  • Learners will extend their repertoire of colloquial and idiomatic language which they can use appropriately in a wide range of contexts and modes.
