  Your degree

  In Year 1, you’ll develop foundational knowledge of the major subfields of psychology, including cognitive, social, developmental and biological psychology. This lays the groundwork for your degree. You’ll also:

  • gain hands-on experience in research methods and statistics using R (data analysis, coding, visualisation)
  • develop academic skills in essay writing, critical thinking, debate and data presentation
  • take your first modules in business and management.

  Your degree

  In Year 2, you’ll further develop your expertise in both psychology and business. In psychology, you’ll study areas such as learning and memory, child development, brain function and social identity. In business and management, you’ll examine topics such as international business management and operations. Your research training continues with advanced quantitative analysis using R and qualitative methods. This year builds the depth of knowledge and the skill set you’ll need for advanced study and independent research.

  Placement (optional)

  To help you gain experience and increase your employability, you can apply for an optional placement as part of your course. You’ll be responsible for applying for and securing your placement. Our dedicated careers team can provide you with information and advice. If you’re successful in obtaining a placement, this will form part of your course.

  Your degree

  Your final year focuses on specialisation and independent research. You’ll choose from a wide range of specialist psychology options, covering areas such as organisational psychology, positive psychology, the psychology of prejudice and cognitive neuroscience. And you’ll deepen your business knowledge through specialist modules focusing on strategy and ethics.

  The highlight of your degree is the capstone research project: a year-long independent study carried out under expert supervision. This project enables you to apply your theoretical and methodological expertise to a focused topic of psychology. Your project culminates in a dissertation that demonstrates your ability to conduct and communicate high-quality research.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.

We’ll do our best to provide as much optional choice as we can, but timetabling constraints mean it may not be possible to take some module combinations. The structure of a small number of courses means that the order of modules or the streams you choose may determine whether modules are core or optional. This means that your core modules or options may differ from what’s shown here.
