Family Psychology (C8549)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll examine the following across a range of family forms:

• family functioning
• family relationships
• child development.

You’ll explore individual, dyadic, family and cultural-level factors that influence the development and functioning of family relationships.

The module will cover the main theoretical approaches to the study of the family but will emphasise recent empirical research. A focus on diverse family forms runs throughout the module, such as:

• LGBTQ+ families
• families formed through third-party assisted reproduction.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
