Health Psychology (C8017)

15 credits, Level 6

Autumn teaching

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to Health Psychology and to explore fundamental theoretical and empirical issues that require attention and consideration by researchers working in this field. Topics covered are likely to include: health, well-being and the role of health psychology, socioeconomic inequalities in health, personality and health, stress and social support, fear appeals, positive psychology and health (with a particular focus on self-affirmation), ethical issues in health promotion, and applications of health psychology to specific health-related behaviours (for example eating behaviours, physical activity and sleep).

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
