Cognitive Psychology (C8551)

15 credits, Level 5

Autumn teaching

Cognitive Psychology is the study of the mind: the science of how we think.

This module will provide you with a broad overview of Cognitive Psychology, which may include topics such as:

  • perception
  • attention
  • memory
  • language
  • thinking
  • individual differences in cognition.

Practicals and workshops provide you with experiential learning through participation in experiments, using key experimental techniques. You will also practice the evaluative and creative problem-solving skills needed to carry out cognitive psychological research, and to discuss its theoretical and real-world importance.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
