Children's Peer Relationships (C8854)

Peer relationships play a crucial role for children’s development.

You'll explore the development of peer relationships in childhood and topics such as:

• the role of play in fostering friendships and positive peer relationships
• the antecedents to positive peer relationships
• peer relationships at the transition to school
• maladaptive peer relationships (such as deviancy and bullying)
• socio-emotional and cognitive outcomes of positive peer relationships.

You'll focus on the key developments in children’s peer relationships, from toddlerhood to middle childhood. You'll also critically evaluate the measurement tools used to assess peer relationship in developmental psychology.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
