This module addresses aspects of public international law in events that are taking place globally.

Through an analytical and critical lens, you will examine the relevance of public international law in events such as:

• the conflict in Syria
• the targeted killing of individuals in Syria and Salisbury
• legal controversies regarding the Global Migration Compact
• the principle of self-determination in the Chagos Islands
• the various policies of the Trump Administration in the US.

Pre-requisite

**The module ‘Principles of Public International Law’ is a prerequisite for this module**

• demonstrate detailed knowledge at the forefront of the field of public international law
• critically comment upon current research and primary sources
• critically evaluate (incomplete) arguments and assumptions regarding the role of public international law in current affairs
