Research Methods in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry

Module code: C7011
Level 4
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Laboratory, Pre-recorded content, Lecture, Online workshop, Seminar, Online lecture
Assessment modes: Multiple choice questions, Coursework

Explore a variety of biochemical and molecular genetics techniques crucial to biomedical research.

As well as learning the theory, you’ll gain hands-on laboratory experience of some of these techniques. You’ll also develop an ability to analyse experimental datasets using appropriate statistical tests.

You will gain insights into how these methods have been used to provide novel biological insights.

Module learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate understanding of a range of biochemical and molecular genetics methodologies and awareness of their applications.
  • Demonstrate competency in handling and interpreting experimental data
  • Demonstrate understanding of a range of statistical methods that are commonly used in biomedical sciences, and be able to use a modern software package to apply these methods to process biological data.
