This module focuses on the centrality of gender as a factor that ultimately structures all social relations.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore topics including:

  • personal and sexual relationships within the household, the labour market and from the state
  • how different cultures perform gender relations and practices
  • the role of gender in the processes of social transformation
  • the impact of industrialisation and migration on gender relations.

  • Describe contemporary and historical debates around gender theory and gendered social practices
  • Analyse the social and cultural construction of femininity and masculinity across time and cultures
  • Apply critical analysis within a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach
