On this module, you’ll get introduced to a range of approaches in contemporary performance practice. You’ll focus on a number of companies and artists. These will be used as case studies at a practical and theoretical level.

Topics will include new strategies in composition/devising and collaborative methodologies. The module culminates with the performance of collectively devised short pieces.

Key skills you’ll gain include:

  • critical analysis and reflection
  • practical performance-making
  • research skills, especially into histories of contemporary performance.

  • To demonstrate an understanding of developments in contemporary performance through practice and research.
  • To apply an enhanced critical vocabulary to the discussion of shifts in contemporary history, culture and politics and how these have affected performance.
  • To demonstrate an ability to articulate, analyse and apply material studied together through both theory and practice.
