Group Fitness Classes

 

What classes can I do?

Our group fitness programme is designed to allow you to find the perfect workout to suit your goals.

We take pride in being able to provide one of the largest and most diverse group fitness programmes in the south east. Quality instruction and teaching is at the heart of every class and you'll benefit from the energy that group training brings. We believe we have a group fitness class for everyone.

Are classes included in membership?

All of our in-person classes are free with Gold and Silver Sussexsport membership.

If you're a Bronze member or a non-member, you can pay per class. Download our price list for pay-and-play options: Sussexsport Price List 2022 [PDF 89.26KB].

Can I book online?

Yes, all of our classes must be booked in advance and you can book your place online, by phone or in person at the reception desks at the Sport Centre and Falmer Sports Complex.

Can I see available spaces for classes and fitness room visits?

Yes, you can check our live system to see available spaces for classes and fitness room visits. 

Current class timetable and bookings 

Book online or call us on: 01273 678228 to reserve your space. Classes are free for Gold and Silver members, or you can pay-per-class as a Bronze member or non-member.

Monday

Aerial Yoga: 9.30am - 10.30am

Instructor: Kitty

Venue: Sport Centre Dance Studio

Move between yoga postures using a low-hanging wide aerial silk, hung like a hammock, to give flowing movements that relax and stretch the body.

Long sleeves and long trousers recommended wear, but not essential. Please wear clothing with no zips or buckles, and remove watches and jewellery prior to each class.

Aerial Yoga Improver: 10.45am - 11.45am

Venue: Sport Centre Dance Studio

Indoor Group Cycling: 12.05pm -12.50pm

Small Group Training: 12pm - 12.45pm

A coaching focused session covering the key exercises in a strength training workout. The session will cover warm up, take you through a circuit of 5 of the main strength movements, Squat, Deadlift, Row, Push Up and Plank.

Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind class that will blow you away.

Based on flowing sequences and precise alignment, linked to full rhythmic breathing that will open up both body and mind. This class will improve your strength, stamina and flexibility.

CardioBox: 1.05pm - 1.50pm

CardioBox is a high energy class using a mix of simple martial arts moves mixed with traditional aerobics exercises to create a full body workout. Kick, punch, squat & Jack away the calories with this fat burning, stress releasing fun workout. Suitable for all abilities & fitness levels, no martial arts experience needed

Us Girl Can Women's Only Session: 2pm - 3pm

 A womens only gym session, with a female instructor present. The session will include a themed section on a strength exercise for those looking to learn new exercises or check on their technique

Restoration Yoga: 5pm - 5.45pm

Using elements of yoga, pilates and functional flexibility training, we will explore our own range of movement, limb and spinal flexiblity, breathing and balance. Suitable for all abilities.

This is a much more movement based and demanding class for those that enjoy the core elements of Pilates, but want a greater workout.

PiYO: 12.05pm - 12.50pm

PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga.  We crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined.

A 40 minute lunchtime session that focuses on an all over body workout. This class is aimed to get you stronger, leaner, help you burn more calories and is guaranteed to leave you feeling like you have had a good session! The class is aimed at all levels from the beginner through to the advanced trainer.

Yoga and Breathing: 1pm - 2pm

 A class incorporating classical yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation to aid total well-being, inner peace and mental clarity. Suitable for those with experience.

Body Conditioning: 5.05pm - 5.50pm

Instructor: Ria

Venue: Sport Centre Dance Studio

This class is suitable for all fitness levels. You start the class with a warm up. The rest of the sessions is split into 4 x 4 strength exercises using bodyweight and dumbells. You will work on the lower body, the upper body and core. The method of training creates a high intensity and high energy class.

Metabolc Training: 5pm - 6pm

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Fitness Room

A class centred on strength training to produce a high intensity class that trains both the muscular and cardiovascular system to create a smart training solution. The class uses barbells, dumbbells, ropes, kettlebells and medicine balls and requires some experience of free weight training. The class is a great calorie burner, great fun and is a challenging workout.

Pilates: 6pm - 7pm

Mat-based Pilates focusing on improving flexibility and strength for the whole body. Slow, controlled movements for maximum effect and relaxation. This class is suitable for beginners and improvers.

Boxercise is the best stress buster around! It is considered one of the most effective forms of cross-training available. Boxercise combines a cardio workout with a conditioning workout, stimulsting all muscle groups to help you increase your fitness and stamina, lose weight and tone up all at the same time; making it one of the most fun and effective ways to exercise.

Friday

Weightlifting Workshop: 9.30am - 10.30am

Instructor: Sussexsport Fitness Team

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Fitness Room

A workshop that covers the basic's of lifting, including programming. The session will focus on how to set up and perform squats, deadlifts and upper body exericses, as well as provide an opportuniity to ask questions and cover other exercises. The session is designed for those with little or no experience and for those that are looking to start to use free weights. This is a coaching based session and not a workout!

Core and Strength: 12pm - 1pm

Strength and core works on switching on all our deep stabilising muscles so that we improve balance, core control and is great for injury prevention. The movements are slow and strong to allow for correct technique and form. You will definitely be challenged in a positive way and will end the class feeling like you have not only worked hard but achieved a lot!

Ahead of your class

  • Please let reception know that you have arrived for your class so that we can register your attendance
  • If you have booked your place and fail to attend, arrears will show on your account and you will be unable to carry out any other bookings until these arrears have been paid
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and if you have any injuries or problems then discuss these with the instructor before the class
  • Please make sure to arrive ahead of the class start time. Entry will be denied if you are more than 10 minutes late
  • We ensure that all instructors are fully qualified and experienced. However, all participants take part in any activity at their own risk.

Waiting Lists

If a class is fully booked you have the option of going on the waiting list, just ask at the Sport Centre or Falmer Sports Complex reception. We will attempt to contact you if a place becomes available, so please make sure we have your correct contact details. Please note that being on a waiting list does not guarantee you a place, but is to note your interest in case a place becomes available.
