Matt Scott: Chief Digital and Technology Officer
Biography
Matt joined the University of Sussex in July 2025, bringing over 20 years of experience in IT and digital leadership across the public sector. As an executive technology leader he has successfully delivered transformative programmes of technology change, driving innovation, efficiency, and improved outcomes. His expertise spans service design, digital infrastructure, and cyber security compliance, underpinned by an MBA, professional certifications and membership of the British Computer Society.
At Sussex, Matt serves as Chief Digital and Technology Officer and is a member of the University Executive Team. He leads the strategic and operational delivery of digital and technology services across the institution, with key accountability for the IT Services (ITS) division. ITS provides and supports secure, resilient, and innovative technology infrastructure and services that underpin the University’s teaching, research, and operational activities.
Matt is responsible for safeguarding the University’s digital environment, leading its approach to cyber security and technology risk management through robust policies, standards, and solutions. He also chairs the Digital and Data Futures Task Force, guiding the University’s response to emerging technologies and innovation opportunities in alignment with the Sussex 2035 strategy. He works in close partnership with academic, research, and Professional Services teams to ensure that digital innovation directly enhances the student experience and supports the University’s mission for progressive, globally impactful education.
