Harry Frankfurt on bull**** and lies

In this 30 minute lecture we look at Harry Frankfurt's theory of bull****. He tries to capture the phenomenon by giving two individually necessary and jointly sufficient conditions. However we show with counterexamples that he is partly unsuccessful since neither condition is necessary. Not only has he not managed to define bull****, but his distinction between bull****ing and lying is malconstructed in various ways. That said, he has helped throw light on the phenomenon by pointing to one of its common features - indifference to the truth.
