American Studies talks - Saturday 5 June 2021
9.30am and 11.30am

American Studies

In this event, Dr Tom Davies (Senior Lecturer in American Studies & Director of Admissions) will give a 30-minute talk exploring the subject of American Studies, and its uniqueness as a multi-disciplinary subject. It will give you a sense of the range of exciting things that you will study on the degree, the skills you will acquire, and possibilities that it opens up for study in the US and Canada. The talk will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session in which applicants can put questions to Tom and a current student who can give you their first-hand perspective on studying American Studies at Sussex.

American Studies taster lecture

Race and Policing in the US: Past and Present

In this taster lecture Dr Melissa Milewski will put recent controversies over racial disparities in the American criminal justice system (for examples, the murder of George Floyd and the trial of his killer) into historical perspective.
