Centre for Inquiry and Research in Cognition, Learning and Teaching in Sussex (CIRCLETS)

Current research

Research within the centre includes projects on pupil grouping, children's rights, mathematics education, reading and personalised learning. The centre has also focussed on improving the classroom experience through development of teachers' skills, improving science teaching, pair mentoring of trainee teachers, and the development of socio-cultural approaches to formative assessment.

The centre sets out to support student and professional learning through high quality research published in accessible forms. Our close partnerships with local schools through our PGCE, GTP, MA in Educational Studies and doctoral programmes in Education, provide extensive opportunities to integrate our research and teaching. These programmes also provide a natural progression for professionals to develop their research skills.
