This module examines four approaches to understanding contemporary US politics that emphasise the role of institutions, ideas, individuals and interests.

These approaches are applied to the three main institutions of the Presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court, and to the nature of political parties and voting in the US.

  • Analyse the structure and operation of an aspect of US politics
  • Locate and evaluate academic literature related to a particular topic in US politics
  • Identify and research a key issue or question relating to US politics
