On this module you’ll explore key legal frameworks, elements and case studies in technology regulation and intellectual property (IP) law. You’ll consider practical legal tools for navigating digital environments.
You’ll learn about:
- copyright issues and generative AI
- source code protection, confidentiality and trade secrets
- patents and AI inventorship
- cybercrime and cybersecurity
- trade marks, image rights and avatars
- data protection and cross-border data sharing.
These topics include introductions to relevant legal frameworks, and practical applications on selected case scenarios.
Module learning outcomes
- Recognise the key features and functions of law in technological development, and how intellectual property law can both constrain and enable innovation
- Recognise and describe the varied legal frameworks and intellectual property tools in which digital technologies operate
- Develop arguments that demonstrate an understanding of intellectual property issues arising in digital and data-driven contexts
