This module is based on the central question – how do sociologists do sociology?
On this module, you’ll:
- address, explore and reflect on epistemological and methodological questions in sociology through examples
- compare and contrast classic studies with modern cases in the approaches.
This will open discussions about ways to understand social phenomena with specific ontological and epistemological frames.
Module learning outcomes
- Identify major methods of data collection in some sociological work
- Be able to relate research outcomes to the research process
- Evaluate the appropriateness of different methodologies
- Understand how different sociological approaches and theories can 'make the familiar strange'
