Creative Practice: Producing and Curating

This module will introduce you to various aspects of contemporary media creation with a focus on how consideration of an audience should be built in from the beginning.
You’ll study the themes of:
- need
- media messages (intended and received)
- interdisciplinarity
- transmedia.
A series of lectures will present different methods and technologies for curating, presenting and showcasing your work as media makers. This may include:
- screenings
- installations
- happenings
- channels
- digital devices.
You’ll participate in workshop and seminar discussions, exploring ideas from the lectures and undertaking regular independent-study assignments to enhance your understanding. These will be recorded in a weekly log. You’ll also produce a short report.
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of key processes for producing, selecting and exhibiting creative media works to in a variety of formats and contexts
- Demonstrate an ability to analyse practical outcomes in relation to effectiveness of form, message, audience and environment
- Develop ideas and analysis effectively in written form with supporting illustrations and appropriately referenced research
- Demonstrate the ability to apply findings to inform the development of own creative practice methods
