How is technology transforming young people’s everyday lives? How can we support young people to benefit from the digital world, whilst also protecting their safety and wellbeing?

On this module, you’ll focus on the digital lives of young people, from social media to artificial intelligence. Through concepts of identity, relationships and risk, you’ll analyse:

  • how young people can be supported to navigate a digital world
  • the challenges digital technologies present for policy and practice.

You’ll also prepare blogs for practice audiences, developing your communication skills.

Module learning outcomes

  • Critically explore the role of digital media in shaping young people’s lives in contemporary society.
  • Apply key theoretical concepts to make sense of how digital technologies shape the lives of young people.
  • Critically evaluate debates surrounding digital youth and locate them within wider policy and practice fields.
  • Communicate research, practice and policy issues to non-academic audiences using digital platforms (e.g. blogs).
