Module learning outcomes

  • Synthesising research, policy and professional literature, critically analyse and evaluate the role of structured talk and explanation in supporting learners’ conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas.
  • Engage with your own personal bias and challenges surrounding education including an ability to articulate understanding of the uncertainties and limits of knowledge within secondary Mathematics.
  • Apply evidence-informed educational approaches to your own reflection of classroom practice experiences.
  • Drawing on your experiences in both placement schools, reflect on your teaching practice and professional learning to identify how classroom talk can be used to support learners’ conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas.
