This module critically explores the complex relationships between education, democracy, social justice, and sustainability in our current world, marked by growing inequalities, environmental threats, and a decline in democratic values. By examining historical and contemporary contexts through multiple perspectives (philosophical, sociological, and political), students will explore how these areas influence and shape each other, contributing to societal challenges and opportunities. Students will develop critical thinking skills to analyse power dynamics and inequalities embedded within these systems. Through a focus on theoretical frameworks and reflection on experiences and practices, students will develop a deep understanding of the complex issues at stake and gain critical knowledge and skills necessary for rethinking education for a more just, equitable, and sustainable world.
