To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- Be a national of Sri Lanka
- Be classified as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes
- Be taking up a place on a full time Masters degree, starting September 2026
- Who isn’t eligible
You are not eligible for this scholarship if your tuition fees are fully sponsored
You are not eligible for this scholarship if you are going to study any of the following:
- Certificates and Diplomas (including PGCE)
- Courses at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
- Development Studies MA
- Early Years Education (with Early Years Teacher status)
- Globalisation, Business and Development MA
- Governance, Development and Public Policy MA
- Power, Participation and Social Change MA
- Poverty and Development MA
- Degrees in Social work (if receiving an NHS bursary)
- Online courses
- Schools direct teaching courses
- Masters funded by the research councils (e.g. ESRC 1+3 funding)

The scholarship is applied automatically if you meet the eligibility criteria. If this changes at any time, the scholarship will be removed.
Confirmation of the scholarship will be sent by email after you receive an offer of a place to study at Sussex and information about the scholarship will be included in your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) for your visa application. If the scholarship information is not showing on your CAS, please contact the Admissions Office: pg.applicants@sussex.ac.uk.

Terms and conditions
Students must be self-financing to receive the scholarship. If you confirm that you are being sponsored, or that your tuition fees are being paid by sponsor, employer or other funding provider, then the scholarship offer will be revoked.
The scholarship is awarded as a tuition fee reduction for each year of full-time study at Sussex. The scholarship is not available for placement/study abroad years or if you are required to resit.
Advice for dual nationals: in order to receive the Sussex Sri Lanka Scholarship, you may be asked to provide evidence to the University of your Sri Lankan nationality (such as a passport or other form of official government identification which confirms citizenship). If you are planning to apply for your Student Visa with another passport, then please note that you may also be required to present evidence of your Sri Lankan nationality during the visa application process and arrival in the UK as the Sussex Sri Lanka Scholarship will be included on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) document.
