¡Viva Palestina! The Story of the Palestinian Revolution in Latin America
Wednesday 29 October 13:00 until 14:00
University of Sussex Campus : Fulton 212
Speaker: Dr Jacob Norris
Part of the series: MENACS seminar series

In the 1960s and 70s, the Palestinian struggle burst onto the global scene. Nowhere was this more keenly felt than in Latin America – a region in the midst of its own revolutionary ferment. In this talk, Sussex historian Jacob Norris recounts the hidden history of how Palestine became deeply entwined with the Latin American left, setting up a powerful association that is today replicated the world over.
As global solidarity with Palestine reaches new heights in 2025, we are in urgent need of histories that place today’s activism in a longer historical context. This talk will provide this context with specific reference to Latin America, uncovering the lived experiences of members of the Palestinian diaspora who first embedded Palestine into Third World consciousness.
