Choose a designer

See our roster of approved suppliers and have your materials designed by a professional.

What to do first

If you’re looking to refresh your print materials alongside other media, such as web pages or editorial, it’s still a good idea to look at things as a whole. Follow our guide on starting a new project and fill in the creative project briefing template. This will form the basis of your discussion with a designer.

Contact us for support in choosing a designer to work with.

If you’re a member of staff based within a School at Sussex, you’ll also need to make sure that your planned materials fit into the School’s overall marketing plan. Get in touch with our marketing team for advice. Email marketing@sussex.ac.uk.

If you are in Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Institute of Development Studies, Sussex Estates and Facilities or Sussex Innovation Centre, in the first instance you should contact your marketing/communications team.

Working with approved designers

If you are producing University-branded materials, you must use one of the approved designers below. Each designer is familiar with our brand guidelines and has the approved fonts and logos.

The approved designers work with you to create professionally produced material that's on brand and effective. They can also provide guidance and advice on getting the most effective solutions from a limited budget.

To help you decide which designer is right for your project we have grouped the designers into two lots.

Lot 1: Large/medium brand communications

Marketing campaigns both online and offline, advertising, brochures, social media graphics, magazines, event marketing, experiential marketing, wayfinding, environmental graphics.

Designers in this lot are expected to work with us to commission additional copywriting, infographics, illustration and photography, as each project requires. They are also expected to provide project/account management, planning and strategy input, expertise and advice, making recommendations to meet objectives, and evaluation of success.

Lot 2: Simpler brand communications

Campaign graphics, small and large publications, newsletters, templates, presentations, invitations and direct mail.

If necessary, you may ask designers in this lot to commission additional copywriting, infographics, illustration and photography, as each project requires.

Accessibility

To meet web accessibility standards set out by WCAG we must make sure our web content is accessible to all visitors to our website. This includes all web pages, video and audio content as well as all files, such as PDF documents, created by design agencies.

It is important to include a requirement for the content produced to meet these standards at the briefing stage. It can be time-consuming to go back and implement these changes after the content is produced.

Share the following links with design agencies to brief them on the standards that must be met:

Using web addresses in print

If you’re citing Sussex web addresses in your print materials, email dcm@sussex.ac.uk.

This allows us to check any potential technical issues.

Getting your publication printed

All University-branded materials must be printed via our Print Unit.

Email printunit@sussexestatesfacilities.co.uk for advice, costings or to place your print job.

Web design

We have a set of web components, designed for accessibility, user experience and compatibility.

If you’re producing or editing a section of the Sussex website, you don’t need to use a graphic designer. Instead you should use our components library.

If you need more advice, email webteam@sussex.ac.uk.
