Welcome to the Brown Lab

Our research investigates various aspects of adsorption and reaction on surfaces. The most recent work of our group focuses on using surface science techniques to study reactions on grain surfaces in space. In particular we look at surface processes that are relevant to star forming regions such as the interstellar medium (ISM). We are particularly interested in the thermal and ultra-violet processing of ices adsorbed on model grain surfaces. We use a range of surface science techniques, especially temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS), to study model interstellar ices adsorbed at ~ 20 K on a graphitic dust grain analogue surface. We collaborate with astronomers and astrochemists to incorporate this data into astronomical models.
