The course covers the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing and aims to develop students' ability to communicate across cultures at pre-intermediate level in written and spoken English. It includes work on vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and a range of reading and writing tasks. The course content will be according to Level B1 (Threshold User) as defined in the Common European Framework.

Module learning outcomes

  • Learners will be able to write short sentences accurately using basic grammatical structures and vocabulary.
  • Learners at this level will be better able to understand the types of texts from which Elementary learners can derive only the most basic points of information, in that their understanding will go beyond merely being able to pick out facts and will involve the appreciation of opinions and wishes.
  • Learners will be able to cope linguistically in a range of everyday situations which require a largely predictable use of language.
