Women and Human Rights (873M3)

Spring teaching
On this module, you’ll explore:
- feminist theory
- human rights theory
- anthropological and historical materials
- rights instruments and documentation.
You’ll cover theories about women’s human rights, including:
- different perspectives on the origins of women’s rights
- decolonial critiques on linear views of rights development
- feminist critiques of rights
- the use of rights for the empowerment of women
- international implementation of women’s rights.
You’ll also focus on the conception, implementation, adherence and breach of a specific right or related rights.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 30 hours of contact time and about 270 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
