Building digital capabilities
The Discovery Tool is a developmental tool for self-assessing your digital capabilities, providing opportunities to develop your skills further with access to over 800 Jisc-curated resources, including resources from Sussex.
It uses a series of reflective questions, grouped in question sets, that relate to the Jisc building digital capabilities framework.
Questions are quiz-like and non-judgmental. They are developmental and designed to foster understanding rather than to test knowledge. They aim to assess your confidence and experience with a host of real-world digital practices.
The questions are either multiple-choice or slide-bar with each set taking around 15 to 25 minutes to complete. On completion, you will receive a personalised report with suggested next steps and links to selected resources that will help you to develop further.
The purpose of the feedback report is to help you reflect on your digital capabilities in order to identify your key strengths as well as any skills gaps where you may need further support. Rather than being an objective 'measure' of your digital capabilities the report offers guidance and tips based on your reflective answers.
The Discovery Tool isn't a test so there are no right or wrong answers. Its purpose is to help you think about the different elements of digital capability in relation to you and your work. It's designed to help you improve your skills at your own speed.
It is recommended that you retake the same question set every year. That way you can chart your progress and get the most out of the resources available to you.
You can also access resources directly through the Resource Bank, with sub-banks containing playlists mapped to different areas of digital capability.
