Composition workshop at the ACCA on Sunday 4 November 2018
On Sunday 4 November in the Attenborough Centre, new musical compositions from the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Music will be rehearsed and discussed by members of the ensemble "Orchestra of Sound and Light". There will be a short performance of these pieces at 1pm. All are welcome but if you would like to come please email Ed Hughes (e.d.hughes@sussex.ac.uk).
The complete list of works is Van Pham - new work Jamie Longcake - Harmonic Study Thomas Lowden - Disillusion Dominic Beach - Piano Quintet Jason Hazael – Archive Fever Tim Young – Mount Zion
One of the works is by Jason Hazael, who has just completed his MA in Music and Sonic Media. Jason writes:
Archive Fever (extract) Archive Fever is an audiovisual collage for video, audio track and live ensemble. The video was sourced from the Barrie Gavin Music and Musicians Documentary Films Archive and the Altman-Koss Video Jazz Archive both held at the University of Sussex in the School of Media, Film and Music Resources Centre; the score is derived from the opening bar of the Allemande from Corelli’s violin sonata (Op. 5 No. 8). The piece explores the dream-like experience of browsing archives, and is also an attempt to make musical processes (rhythm, repetition, gesture) visible.
Although this is not a public workshop, we intend to play through these exciting works at 1pm (for about half an hour) in the ACCA, on Sunday 4 November. All are welcome but if you would like to come please email Prof Ed Hughes (e.d.hughes@sussex.ac.uk)
