Writing about Values

The Writing about Values project was a research project funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). Based upon self-affirmation theory, the project evaluated the impact of undertaking short and simple writing exercises involving self-affirmation of values, which took place as classroom activities during standard GCSE English lessons.  Previous research suggests that marginalised or disadvantaged students can benefit from these exercises, yet no research has investigated this in the UK. Following a substantial programme of work with thousands of secondary school students, amall positive effects of the exercises were found for students eligible for free school meals. More information about the research findings can be foud on the EEF website.
