Biography
I have been with the Sussex Energy Group, SPRU, working as Research Fellow since 2008. Here, I have focused on a number of projects including the UK-India Collaborative project to Overcome Barriers for Low Carbon Energy Technologies, along with fellow SEG members Gordon MacKerron, David Ockwell and Jim Watson. Other projects include a report for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) regarding barriers to industrial energy efficiency technologies and research on transitioning to a low carbon economy in Asia for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). In addition, I have recently completed my PhD in Development Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). My dissertation looks at the effects of trade and technology cooperation on the adoption of Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) in urban Latin America.
My background spans both academia and the public sector, including time spent working for the Canadian Government in relation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. I have been concentrating on energy and environmental policy issues, including climate change and renewable energy, and urban development issues.
Before coming to SPRU, I worked as a research assistant at the Center for Science, Technology and Public Policy (CSTPP) at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota. I have a M.A. in International Development at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada and a Hons. B.A., Specialist in International Relations, Minor in Environmental Studies at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada.
