The club specialises in Mixed Martial Arts for self defence, combining stand-up, grappling, ground fighting and pressure point techniques into an effective defence system and a fun and rewarding workout. Peter has 10 years of experience training in several martial arts styles and has competed in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Peter completed his DPhil in Sociology at Sussex in 2012, working also as an Associate Tutor in the department of Sociology, and subsequently as a lecturer at the University of Portsmouth. He was also an editor and reviewer of the Sussex-based journal Studies in Social and Political Thought. He now works for Technopolis Group, which spun out from the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) in the early 1990s. He provides Consultancy and policy research on science, research and innovation policy to a broad range of national and supra-national organisations including the UK government and European Commission. His book 'Giddens and Politics beyond the Third Way: Utopian Realism in the Late Modern Age' combines work developed from his DPhil with insights gained through his further policy experience and is published by Palgrave Macmillan (2016).
