Potential PhD students can also ask in their registering departments about Graduate Teaching Assistantships which may provide them with a partial or full fee waiver.

There are numerous small organisations offering funding for postgraduates, although these awards rarely exceed £500.
Lists can be found in The Charities Digest, The Grants Register, The Educational Grants Directory and The Directory of Grant-Making Trusts. Home students can pick up copies of these publications from their careers services and public libraries; international students may be able to access them in a public library, or may need to order them online.
Finally, check for charities and councils in your area. They may have a small award you could apply for.
