As the colder months approach, it is important to look after both your physical and mental health. Here is an update on the support available to help you stay well this winter.
Supporting your wellbeing with Spark
Staff have access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), delivered through Spark on Spectrum.Life. This service is free, confidential, and available 24/7 to you and your immediate family, and it’s not just for times of crisis.
New and enhanced services include:
- Virtual GP & Advanced Nurse Practitioners – quick access to appointments, any time
- Online Physiotherapy – book without a GP referral
- Cancer Risk Assessments & Nurse Support – in partnership with Perci Health
- Child Mental Health Assessments (ages 6–16)
- Second Medical Opinion Service
- Connect Plus – manage conditions like diabetes, menopause, stroke, long COVID, and more
- Adult & Elder Care Support – including advice on arranging/funding care
You can download the Spectrum.Life app or visit the Spark website and use our organisation code G00706802 to get started.
Flu vaccinations
This year, the University is unable to fund a staff flu vaccination programme. Colleagues are encouraged to:
- Check your eligibility for a free flu vaccine via the NHS
- For those not eligible, our on-site pharmacy will be offering paid for flu jabs, as will many pharmacies close to you locally if you choose to get vaccinated
Getting vaccinated remains one of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you from flu.
Everyday winter wellness tips
Here are a few small things that can make a big difference during the upcoming winter season:
- Keep active - even short walks can help boost immunity and mood
- Prioritise rest - aim for regular sleep patterns
- Stay connected - check in on colleagues, friends, and family
- Eat for warmth and energy - seasonal fruit, veg, and hot meals can keep you going
Your wellbeing, your support
This winter, take advantage of all the support at your fingertips including Spark and the EAP. You’ll also find guidance, signposting, and practical tools on the Staff Wellbeing Hub, your central place for everyday wellbeing support. Remember, help is always here when you need it.
