Research by a Human Resource Management expert in the School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc) into 'dirty work' - jobs seen by others as ‘distasteful’- is featured in 12 Research Stories, a celebration of the rich diversity of research at Sussex.
The study, by Dr Natasha Slutskaya, Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management in the School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc), involved working with and earning the trust of waste collectors in London to encourage them to talk about their work.
Natasha's original aim was to contribute to academic literature on the subject, but as the project developed, her research became more meaningful. She comments:
‘I felt I had a responsibility to give them a voice, to challenge perceptions and to try and draw more public attention to their concerns.’
