Update - Wednesday 4.20 pm
* Campus expected to be open as normal tomorrow (Thursday). Website will provide updates by 7.00 am. See also separate news item on events later this week.*
Fresh falls of snow meant public transport severely disrupted this morning, and some car parks closed, campus services affected.
Almost all services on campus have been running today, but some with limited numbers of staff.
Public transport to and from Brighton starting to return to normal with buses and trains (as at 1.20 pm) now running.
Students should note that some teaching may have been affected without notice if were staff are stuck on roads, trains or buses coming onto campus. We apologise if this was the case.
The fresh falls of snow overnight - and continuing snow fall first thing this morning - meant some car parks have had to be closed again this morning and care needed around campus. All car parks had been cleared of snow yesterday - the fresh fall of light snow overnight had resulted in a covering across campus of around 1-2 cm by 6.00 am, and then continuing falls added to this.
Re-clearing of roads and other car parks has been taking place so they can be used. By 1.00 pm all car parks reported to be re-open on campus - not all snow cleared from around parked cars however, so take care when leaving.
Similarly, the entrances to buildings, the exit from Falmer station and subway and all links between residential buildings and steps had been cleared - and work started again on clearing those as premises staff arrived in. However, as staff were delayed coming on to campus this clearance work has taken more time.
Campus users should take care when driving and walking around campus.
Falmer Station steps warning: The steps down from Falmer Station have been very icy - people are strongly advised to keep to the slope which has been cleared by the University and should be much easier to navigate. These areas on the south side of the A27 are not University property or responsibility.
Travel conditions from different parts of Sussex may of course vary - as reports suggest some local roads are being affected with this new fall of snow, with accidents on some main routes as well. BBC Sussex website currently provides comprehensive links to transport information.
Public transport (4.00 pm update)
Latest information on trains as at 1.20 pm (fresh from our staff who've been down to check out Falmer Station) is that services into Brighton and Lewes are now running, with a few delays and reduced service to Lewes. Ticket enforcement officers were also in attendance! Latest timetable information here.
Buses have also been affected. The number 25 bus from central Brighton is able to reach campus entrance again and is now (4.20 pm) travelling on to campus. Number 28 and 29 is running normal route from Brighton past campus and through to Tunbridge Wells (via A26). See updates on Brighton buses. Big Lemon bus is also running and comes to campus from Brighton.
