Technology Enhanced Learning at Sussex

e-Submission and e-Feedback

In the 2021/22 Academic Year all assessment is being carried out online, except where specifically agreed by Schools. This includes assessment types, such as exams, tests and presentations, which did not previously fall into the e-submission routes and are not covered in the guidance below. Advice on these assessment modes and others can be found on the Teaching Online, Learning Anywhere site on Canvas. [requires login]

Sussex supports the electronic submission of work for contributory assessments via three routes:

  • Turnitin - students and tutors access Turnitin through Canvas
  • Canvas - work is submitted directly into Canvas and marked using the inbuilt Speedgrader functionality
  • Mahara - students submit e-portfolios from within Mahara; all marks and feedback are recorded in Sussex Direct

Known Issue: Using Turnitin with Safari web browser

If you see a ‘Turnitin error’ message when marking with Safari, then you may need to adjust your cookie settings to complete the process. See the ‘How do I resolve problems with Safari and Canvas’ FAQ for instructions.
