Research

My most recent research project HACKIT will explore how informal learning takes place in hacker- and makerspaces. It started in September 2019 and the title is 'Hacking your way to IT literacy: What digital societies can (and need to) learn from digital learning in hackerspaces'. Methodologically, I will conduct a digital ethnography - which means that I will talk to members of such communities, but also endeavour to join and observe their learning practices. Previously, I have done research on the ethics of (biomedical) big data, digital map mashups and the impact of quantifying features on platforms such as Reddit.
