Alumni Volunteer Programme
You can continue to support Sussex after graduation in a variety of ways through the Alumni Volunteer Programme.
We are very proud of our alumni who volunteer to advise the future generations of Sussex students and who help us keep in touch with the growing community of Sussex alumni around the world. We are constantly looking to expand our inspiring group of volunteers and would be delighted to hear from you if you would like to join the Alumni Volunteer Programme. All our volunteers receive full support from the Development and Alumni Relations Office and are welcome to get involved for any period of time.
If you have any questions about the Alumni Volunteer Programme, please contact the Development and Alumni Relations Office (alumni@sussex.ac.uk).

Alumni Careers Network
Join the Alumni Careers Network and help give current students and recent graduates a boost on the careers ladder.
We're particularly looking for alumni in the Sussex or London areas to offer work shadowing placements for students, but wherever you live in the world, you can help by signing up to advise the next generation of Sussex students as part of the Alumni Careers Network.
The Alumni Careers Network is a joint initiative between the Careers and Employability Centre (CEC) and the Development and Alumni Relations Office.
How does it work?
If you sign up to join the Alumni Careers Network, your name and email address will be added to our online database so that students and recent graduates can contact you for careers advice, information on working in your industry or country and ideas for career development. The amount of contact you have with the students is entirely up to you - you may wish only to answer ad hoc queries or to keep in touch with the students on a regular basis and act as their mentor.
If you feel able to offer work shadowing placements, please note that you need to:
- Live in the Sussex or London areas
- Have regular access to email
- Work in a position suitable for student work shadowing (e.g. not in a confidential role)
- Have agreed the work shadowing with your line manager
How do I get involved?
Please complete the online form.
What if no students contact me or I want to leave the programme?
As the Alumni Careers Network is an informal programme, we can't guarantee the number of students who may get in touch. If you would prefer to have your name removed from the directory at any time, please let us know.
Alumni Friendship Programme
Introducing international students to life in the UK.
Would you like to help an international student feel more integrated into the community? Do you enjoy meeting people from different cultures and sharing the varied aspects of British life?
If you live in Sussex or London and would consider inviting an international student for coffee one afternoon or showing them around your local area, we would like to hear from you.
It can sometimes take a lot of courage for international students to become immersed in a new culture, but those who do invariably gain a new international perspective and a better understanding of the people and country they have chosen to study in. They develop a greater feeling of belonging and have memorable experiences to take away with them.
The Alumni Friendship Programme helps international students to make friends outside University, learn more about British culture, practise conversational English and find out about former Sussex students' experiences. It also helps them to feel more at home during those difficult first few months away.
The programme is very informal - you'll be free to meet up as and when you wish, and where is most convenient for you.
If you would like to take part in the Alumni Friendship Programme, please contact alumni@sussex.ac.uk).
