Introduction to Climate Justice

Module code: L2158
Level 4
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Workshop
Assessment modes: Portfolio

Climate justice approaches the causes and impacts of climate change in terms of social and historical inequities. This involves understanding how climate change intersects with existing racial, gendered and other inequalities, disproportionately impacting the poor and those least responsible for causing the problem. This module introduces students to the concept of climate justice, exploring the colonial roots of the climate and ecological crises and how they influence solutions proposed today. Students will explore and analyse carbon budgets, links between fossil fuels and economic power and calls for just recoveries and reparations, while designing campaigns that advocate alternatives to climate injustice.
