Motion design is a dynamic field combining elements of graphic design, animation and visual effects to create engaging visual content for a range of digital outputs.

This module draws on the principles of graphic design including, typography, composition, balance, contrast, rhythm and movement. It integrates elements of animation and visual effects to create motion graphics.

You will explore how motion enhances storytelling in short-form media for advertising, how-to/explainer videos, social media content and title sequences for film and television. The module will introduce you to the core principles used in animation and visual effects (VFX), equipping you with knowledge and techniques that can be applied seamlessly in motion projects to craft visually compelling narratives.

  • Produce motion-based design outcomes that respond to a brief, demonstrating purposeful creative decisions and appropriate technical control.
  • Apply principles of graphic design, animation, and screen storytelling to construct coherent time-based sequences for defined audiences and contexts.

  • Document and critically evaluate process and outcomes, articulating links between concept, method, and final artefact through reflective communication.
