Research and Professional Skills I: Neuroscience (X2105)

Autumn teaching

This interdisciplinary module is designed to develop your research skills and employability.

You will collect data using a range of laboratory techniques or simulations, and apply analytical methods to address specific questions related to Neuroscience. These exercises will be placed in a wider context of material covered in other modules, equipping you with some of the skills needed to carry out research and be more competitive for graduate jobs.

The module also includes a series of seminars focused on making career choices, preparing application documents and building up your professional experience alongside your studies.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 24 hours of contact time and about 126 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
