Spring teaching

This module covers the foundations of research methods and statistical testing to address psychological research questions. Taught sessions cover statistical principles in depth, accompanied by dynamic resources such as online tutorials.

You will build essential data management and analysis skills using statistical computer software and coding, such as cleaning, inspecting, and visualising data, as well as performing a variety of statistical tests. Assessments focus on performing data analysis using statistical software and interpreting results in order to answer set research questions.

This module builds on knowledge gained in the core psychology module C8511: Psychology as a Science.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 106 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
