Empirical Finance Project (N1567)

30 credits, Level 6

Autumn and spring teaching

You produce a project on a topic in one of the following areas: 

  • investment analysis
  • risk management
  • coroporate finance
  • deriviatives 
  • banking. 

In the first part of the module, you learn basic research methods including literature searches, literature reviews, databases, data collection, and referencing. 

You then work on your research proposal, and in the final part of the module, you work on your project and write a 7,500 word report on your research topic. You will be supported by a supervisor throughout the project.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 20 hours of contact time and about 280 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

This module is running in the academic year 2020/21. We also plan to offer it in future academic years. It may become unavailable due to staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of such changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
