Re-imagining Humanitarian Responses to Displacement (010GRS)

30 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll get introduced to recent thinking on responding to displacement.

  • Part 1 (weeks 1-3): you’ll interrogate the hegemonic responses mandated by powerful global institutions and state actors, and the shortcomings of this ‘global response’.
  • Part 2 (weeks 4-6): you’ll investigate ‘new’ actors and modalities in responding to mass displacement.
  • Part 3 (weeks 7-10): the module adopts an applied approach.
You’ll get an introduction to design-thinking. You’ll apply your knowledge of current responses to mass displacement to reconfigure the way in which resources are (re)distributed to displacement-affected populationsThe module concludes with a consideration of what is needed to bring about change in global responses to mass displacement.
